Karpilevski has a profound Jewish content, as Jacob Weitzner declared. Personality of the contemporary Yiddish theater’s, literary consultant at The Yiddish Warsaw Theatre, professor of Yiddish Literature at the Open University and Hebrew Literature at Tel Aviv University, he is considered a unique phenomenon, who continues the tradition of the Yiddish Theater. Weitzner combines the humor and the pathos of Jewish life, while expressing the 21st century existence drama.
The adventures of a playwright are becoming an excellent material for a farce. KARPILEVSKI is a farce about a trivial Jew politician and a third class poet who dies in the arms of a prostitute. The angel Gabriel and Satan protect and persecute him posthumously. In order to solve the case, God gives Abraham Karpilevski talent and sends him back to earth to write a play and mount it on Broadway. It follows a satirical look on politics, culture and contemporary theater.
The process of Karpilevski on Earth values a well, intelligent written play, with philosophical and political echoes. It demonstrates the qualities of The State Jewish Theater’s actors, under the directory of Ștefan Iordănescu.
